Acme Movers is a utility designed to supplement the Finder and provide an alternative interface for moving or copying files from one location to another on any mounted volumes. Regardless of whether the source file or folder and the destination folder are on the same volume or different mounted volumes, you have a choice of moving the source (leaving only one copy of it at the destination), copying the source (leaving the source where it is and making a copy of it at the destination) or moving the source and creating an alias to its new location at its old location. If the destination already contains an item with the same name as the source item, Acme Movers offers you a choice of replacing the item or renaming either the source or the destination item.
Note that Acme Movers makes no pretense to being a Finder replacement. There are already many fine utilities out there that speed up the Finder by intercepting Finder calls for copying files and/or emptying the Trash. Acme Movers provides a means of placing these calls without navigating to some deeply nested source and destination folders and then physically dragging items from one location to another. Acme Movers then steps out of the way and allows the Finder or whatever utility you have installed to take over the call and carry out the action.
What is “shareware?”
First, shareware is not free, and it is not public domain. Acme Movers is copyrighted material and Shepherd’s Pi Software reserves all rights to it.
Shareware is a way to try out software before you buy. You may use Acme Movers for 15 days with no obligation. Then, if you decide to keep it, all you have to do is to fill out the registration form (also in the Acme Movers folder) and send it, along with a check or money order for $10.00 (sorry, no credit cards) to the address at the bottom of the form. This entitles you to free upgrades and information on any new releases from Shepherd’s Pi Software. If you decide you don’t want to keep Acme Movers you must delete it from your hard drive.
Feel free to give a copy of Acme Movers to all your friends (and even your enemies — I don’t mind), as long as you include all of the files in the Acme Movers folder. And please, don’t abuse the system. This is how those of us who do such things make a living. When people abuse the system it discourages us from continuing to provide good, reasonably priced software.
